As it’s coming up to Bank Holiday Monday in August that can mean only one thing… Christmas stuff must be in the shops. It would be funny, except it’s true! Anyway what it also does mean is that the fight for top Christmas toy and gadget is about to begin in earnest. Already Sony have announced that they’re introducing their Slimline Playstation 3, but why spend £249.99 on a thin version of your fat console when you can spend just £24.95 on Hoverpods!

The Flytech Hoverpod from Wowee are available in the UK from Firebox and Play.com. They’re remote controlled hovercraft gadgets and they look a lot of fun. The downside to them is that £24.95 will only buy you one and really you’ll need two to have the most fun with them - for example racing them around the dining table, kitchen, floor - in fact anywhere you like as it works on most surfaces (well except shagpile according to Firebox). Oh, they don’t work on water though!

They actually look a bit Star Wars-esque in design and perhaps Wowee are missing a marketing opportunity by not having “Star Wars Speeders” that use the same hover technology.

If you’re a fan of remote controlled vehicles then Hoverpods might be something you’d like to see on your Christmas list. We would like to see a deal for two ‘pods though.
