Piano Hands - Gloves That Synthesize Musical Instruments
Leave the first response March 12, 2009 / Posted in Fun StuffOnce upon a time to play a musical instrument you had to spend time practicing with whatever you were given in music class - usually a recorder. If you were musically astute then you could go on and learn an instrument. It may be a violin, clarinet or flute but anything bigger was either too expensive or impossible to cart from home to school day in and day out!
How times have changed!
Now you can strap on a pair of gloves and you instantly have a portable piano. Piano Hands are the piano you can play anywhere - and it’s not just a piano! It’s also an organ, violin, trumpet, mandolin, music box, guitar and drums! The gloves synthesize musical instruments and each finger corresponds to a different note. You can see the hands in action in this video from Shinymedia.
The Hands are charged via USB which is great news, however we think that they run the risk of losing their “fun value” incredibly fast. They’re not cheap either - costing £49.99 from I Want One of Those. Wearing gloves and synthesizing music is not new.
Legendary French musician Jean Michel Jarre for example has worn gloves in his amazing light and music shows. The Laser Harp features in many of his concerts and is seen below in Rendez Vous II (about half way through).
The Piano Hands won’t turn you into a musician like Jean Michel Jarre, but with a few torches and a few drinks you could always pretend!
