Celebrate Independence Day with The Barack Obama Action Figure
Leave the first response July 3, 2009 / Posted in Fun StuffJuly the 4th is Independence Day for America (unless we’ve been invaded by aliens and saved by Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith then it’s everyone’s Independence Day). Not wishing to lose out on a marketing opportunity or perhaps they haven’t shifted enough of them since the Presidential campaigns, Firebox are giving their Barack Obama Action Figure an extra push.
Why anyone would want this is beyond Gadgetsaurus, but 188 customers have rated the product at Firebox and it has 4.68 stars out of 5! It stands just 6inches tall and according to the blurb has “eight articulation points”. What you would do with it we just don’t know!

The main problem with the Barack Obama Action Figure is that is has no friends. Where’s the Gordon Brown figure? The Hillary Clinton? Mahmoud Ahmadinejad? In fact why not go the whole hog and have the whole United Nations figures plus a White House, Downing Street and other political venue play sets?
There could even be a British Parliament version with a Cameron figure and other MPs too. Kids could play “expense fiddling” or their own version of Question Time (we’d need a Dimbleby figure too). Forget the Star Wars figures, Barbie, Action Man or Bakugan stuff, the way to get the younger generation interested in politics
Actually come to think of it… let’s hope it never happens!

Pocket Shower - Solar Shower Bag for Camping
Leave the first response May 25, 2009 / Posted in OutdoorsOne of the newest gadgets available at Firebox is the Pocket Shower. It’s a compact bag that transforms into a shower system when filled with water. It’s ideal to take with you camping or to a festival and use it to have a quick wash - although from experience don’t expect to be having a piping hot power shower.
Gadgetsaurus used a solar heated shower bag on a Two Night Teepee Break for Two. You fill the bag with water (which is always freezing what ever time of year) and then leave it out in the sun to soak up rays. The idea is that this heats the water… or at least it should heat the water. At best it takes the chill off, but it was slightly better than an ice cold shower.
Of course you’d not expect to have a hot shower whilst getting back to nature or enjoying the festival season, and the Pocket Shower is a useful gadget to have if you just want a quick rinse and freshen up.
One thing we did find whilst searching on Youtube was that the solar shower bag can make people do the strangest movies…
… at least you can see it in action!
The main problem with the shower, well apart from lack of warmth, is that you need to hang it somewhere to use it. In a festival field that may be difficult although you could put it on top of a car or get a friend to hold it up for you.
It’s a great idea and if you can get even the slightest bit of heat into it then you’ll be able to enjoy an eco friendly wash - otherwise just be very quick if the water’s cold!

Top BBQ Gadgets - The BBQ Sword, Fire Wire Skewers & The Grillslinger
1 Comment May 12, 2009 / Posted in NewsNow that the barbecue season is here we thought we’d take a look at some of the coolest bbq gadgets that are around. Our first stop was I Want One of Those who’s latest BBQ gadget are the Fire Wire BBQ Skewers. They are a pair of stainless steel wires for cooking kebabs. Apparently they make kebabbing on the old ‘cue a lot easier as they’re easier to handle than straight metal or wooden skewers.
FAt £9.99 a pair they’re a bit expensive too, especially if you’re hoping to have a few guests over. Still having the right tools for the job is essential and you can’t go too far wrong with The Grillslinger! This is a collection of utensils, designed by New Zealand chefs no less, that fit into a handy belt. As you’re cooking you just place your tongs, spatula, or knife back in the belt - rather than balancing them precariously around the garden.
The Grillslinger costs £49.99, but for £14.99 you can pick up something just as useful - The BBQ Sword! It’s a barbeque fork styled like a musketeer’s sword and is the essential BBQ gadget to help show off your cooking prowess. The BBQ Sword has featured on The Jonathan Ross Show!

Once the cooking is done you’re going to want to conceal the burnt bits with tomato sauce and mustard. All top BBQers must have a Condiment Gun. This is like a water pistol except it fires out your choice of sauces. At £14.95 from Firebox.com this saucey gadget comes with two cartridges. Just make sure you don’t use the gun to fire sauce at your guests - things do get messy!
If you’d prefer a little more decorum around the condiments at your BBQ then you can get a Picnic Table Condiment Set. It’s a quirky little item that houses salt, pepper and two sauce bottles. It serves no real purpose other than to keep things tidy and be amusing!

Pizzadome - Welcome To The Pizza Pleasure Dome!
Leave the first response May 6, 2009 / Posted in KitchenWe were going to tell you about all the latest cool barbecue gadgets but the weather has gotten so bad again that it’s back in doors for our latest gadget. Food lovers will be pleased to know that we’re sticking with eating though as it’s time to say welcome to the pizzadome? The Pizza Dome is a portable tabletop Italian style brick oven that allows up to 6 people to cook their own personal pizza! It sits in the middle of table and each person has a stainless steel spatula. You take your base and then create your own pizza before sticking it in the domed oven.
According to Drinkstuff.com The Pizza Dome is set to be the new fondue, which perhaps isn’t the best reference! Let’s face it, everyone who has a fondue set (or even a chocolate fountain) uses it once and it then spends the rest of it’s useful life in a cupboard before being retired to the garage. Will the same fate await the pizza dome?
At around £88 it’s an expensive gadget that may wind up sat next to the fondue set or chocolate fountain. For people with families or a hectic social life it has a lot of potential and would definitely be a talking point at parties. It does resolve the issue of toppings as everyone can create their own favourite pizza, however the downside is you’ll need to prepare dough, tomato sauce and chop up a few bits of ham and pineapple.

Didicar - Wiggle Powered Toy Cars for Kids
Leave the first response April 30, 2009 / Posted in KidsThe latest gadget appearing on Firebox is called the Didicar. It’s part of their Firetots range (gadgets for kids) and if you have a potential Lewis Hamilton or Jenson Button on your hands then they’ll just love their own Didicar.
The Didicar, named after a Chinese piglet according to Firebox, is a go-kart tricycle type toy that is powered by wiggle power. There are no pedals, chains or batteries - it just moves along purely by moving the steering wheel from side to side. Firebox tell us that it moves because the downward force is being transformed into forward motion.
The Didicar is not brand new and has been around for a couple of the years, at least in The US. A quick look on Youtube and you can find videos showing a Swaycar, Twistcar or Gyro Car. All look like Didicars, but only Didicars have the Didicar name!
The Didicar can be used indoors and outdoors (preferably indoors) and it can even be personalised with sticker packs. It looks a lot of fun, but will 2009 be the year of the Didicar?
It looks like a fun toy (for both kids and adults) and it’s a great way to get the kids outdoors, but with bikes, trikes and go-karts to compete with we think the Didicar will need some serious publicity (or character endorsement) to really become a must have toy come Christmas time.
